MeshRite is formed by wrapping stainless steel wool mesh over base pipe then covered with a perforated shroud. MeshRite’s 40% open flow area and greater than 3000 Darcy air permeability results in virtually no additional resistance to flow in the near wellbore area or across the screen. With MeshRite, operators gain higher initial and retained permeability and superior well productivity compared to any two dimensional gap-based screens. It is available in standard and high compression versions depending on the amounts of fines to be managed.
Sand control decisions are complex. Most reservoirs are comprised of heterogeneous sands that vary widely in particle size and shape. Non-uniform particle sizes make sizing traditional two dimensional gap-based screens such as wire wrap screen, slotted liner, or woven laminate premium screens difficult. These screens rely on homogeneous or uniform sand particles forming stable bridges over two dimensional gaps in the filter media. With proper gap sizing, stable bridges can stop sand from entering and plugging both the filtration media and the wellbore itself. Heterogeneous sands make sizing almost impossible and tend to plug two dimensional pores.
MeshRite gives operators a sand control system that is insensitive to variations in formation particle sizes. It has three dimensional pores that vary in size and shape, does not require the sand sampling and screen sizing of two dimensional screens. MeshRite’s pore structure offers high initial permeability and high plugging resistance for a broad range of reservoir conditions.
This capability reduces the costs of formation sample collection and laboratory analysis. It also reduces the risks associated with running a screen into a well where the particle size distribution is not known, or varies widely from heel to toe.
