Tri-D FacsRite™  offers exceptional strength and reliable sand control that can be tailored to formation potential for long horizontal wells in unconsolidated reservoirs.

Tri-D FacsRite combines the unique engineering of standard FacsRite™ for strength but with even higher open flow area. As well, the recently launched innovation in Premium media, Tri-D Weave™, gives greater corrosion resistance. In a patented process,  filter discs made of Tri-D Weave are flush mounted and secured directly into the base pipe thus creating a full bore screen with optimal OD/ID for applications where liner OD is critical.

The Challenge

Advances in drilling technology have influenced broad adoption of both horizontal drilling and well designs that incorporate long laterals. The heterogeneity of the sands encountered across long horizontal sections makes sizing traditional 2-D gap based screens for these environments more difficult.

As well, the load forces involved in deploying screens into deviated and horizontal wells and in operating under extreme thermal conditions can damage traditional screens causing the sand control mechanism to fail.

The Solution

Tri-D FacsRite is a robust screen made with Tri-D Weave filter media that resists damage even under severe deployment and operating loads. It enhances well productivity by delivering high permeability in the critical near wellbore area and a low pressure drop across the screen.

Tri-D FacsRite offers the following significant advantages over conventional gap based screens:

Why is Retained Permeability Important in Sand Control?

A superior alternative to slotted liner for:

  • Horizontal, deviated or vertical wells in unconsolidated reservoirs
  • High-pressure, high-temperature and moderate – corrosion environments
  • Horizontal and vertical Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS) wells
  • Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) wells

Ideal for special applications such as:

  • High-temperature water injection wells
  • Applications where a large screen ID to OD ratio is desirable
  • Floating in the screen by temporarily plugging the disks with impermeable, but soluble material
  • Vertical or horizontal gravel-pack or frac-packs

Greater Open Flow Area Plus Greater Strength

In addition to having significantly greater strength to resist deformation and screen damage under load forces, the legends in the strength graphs below show Tri-D FacsRite’s open flow area is almost double that of typical slotted liner. As well, even higher open flow area is feasible with Tri-D FacsRite; whereas increasing the number of slots would significantly weaken slotted liner.

Greater Permeability Delivers Higher Well Productivity

The chart below illustrates that the permeability of Tri-D Weave filter media approaches that of MeshRite, currently the leading technology for delivering high OFA and plugging resistance. MeshRite and Tri-D Weave technologies are both ideal for unconsolidated reservoirs with highly non-uniform particle size distributions. Tri-D Weave offers superior corrosion resistance compared to MeshRite.

Tri-D FacsRite HP

Tri-D FacsRite HP has factory applied disc retention rings that increase the burst pressure rating from 1500 psi to 3000 psi.

Standard FacsRite

FacsRite discs can also be made with sintered layers of conventional Premium woven metal mesh with the same torsion and collapse strength as Tri-D FacsRite. Discs made with conventional Premium media offer lower open flow area and plugging resistance compared to 3-D filter media but have proven reliable in many applications around the world. Tri-D FacsWax

Tri-D FacsRite and Standard FacsRite construction makes it easy to seal disks with a removable substance with the factory applied WaxRite Process.  Waxing allows screens to be floated, rotated, or circulated through difficult hole conditions and to target depth in long horizontals.
